Delhi
We ate left over pizza for breakfast and then headed out to find a rickshaw to take us to the Red Fort. We asked one how much and he said 150 rupees, us experienced tourists bargained him down to 80 rupees, after a small conversation and then walking off, he called us back and accepted our offer! We got to the Red Fort and bought our tickets…really funny that Indian price is 10 rupees, foreigner price 250 rupees! (which is why Rudi thinks the country is racist) We joined what we thought was the end of the line to get into the fort through security but was in the wrong line so moved across into the right one and think we cut in half way! No one said anything to us so we went with it. We got split near the gate as men had to go one way and women the other side. It is because they frisk search you before going in and women have a woman do it behind a curtain! Once making it in we walked around the Red Fort which was very unspectacular from the inside! It looks huge and quite amazing from the outside but inside all the buildings are roped off and we couldn’t really see much. We are getting a bit picky now as we have seen so many forts and temples that they all start to look the same. We spent just under a couple of hours there and then bargained another rickshaw to take us home! We headed straight for McDonalds and it was crazily busy! We ordered and took it home as there was nowhere to sit. It was very average McDonalds! We are now in bed watching a movie and about to head out for a nice dinner, then start a quiet NYE celebration at the hotel. We aren’t going to brave the festivities on the street as we are a little worried it could get ugly out there with the 21 million people that live in Delhi! Ok so just got back from going out for dinner! So much for not braving the 21 million people. In the whole city centre there was about 10 people wandering around when we came out of dinner and 1000 police guarding and blocking off all the streets. It was quite eerie there was absolutely no life in Delhi at all. Anyway we found a nice restaurant for dinner and we had jugs of cocktails and a lovely big fat juicy beef steak! Who would have thought you could get steak in India….but anything is possible and it was amazing! The restaurant was pretty quiet but they had a DJ playing 80’s music so we bopped away and didn’t want to leave! We thought we should get home before midnight and left about 10:30 to walk home. As I said the streets were so quiet it was spooky and when we got back to our hotel the door was locked. After a few seconds of freaking out they opened it for us…must have heard us. We had more drinks in our room and had a dance…kinda on the bed coz our room is so small and played some cards. We had a really fun night and will definitely be a NYE that we will remember. Hope everyone had a great New Years Celebration and that 2011 brings lots of good health, love and happiness to everyone!
