Delhi

Up early again for a quick breakfast, both feeling a little seedy after the few BIG cans of beer the night before. After breaky headed to our room to pack quickly as we were both excited to be meeting our driver who we will be spending the next 5 weeks with! After a false start with another driver who the hotel mistook as ours, we met Sud (yes he has a proper name and no I can't spell it or even say it to be honest) and just like that we were on the road headed for the Red Fort. We passed a few buildings on the way being demolished which drew quite the crowd. about 40 or so mins later we arrived at Red Fort and Sud parked his car and told us there was a mosque right near us, so we headed to the mosque where we had to leave our shoes at the door and don some skin covering attire! (yes me too - yes there are photos) we headed in and it was a really beautiful building, everything is so symmetrical in the architecture here. Next we walked over to Red Fort through Sunday market covered streets which were very busy. Red Fort looks absolutely massive from the outside, we didn’t get a chance to go in as we had run low on cash and ATMs here are scarce, so we decided to return to Red Fort on our last few days in India at the end of this half of the trip. After some more ATM shenanigans (not knowing what our withdrawal limit was and having to withdraw multiple small amounts of cash as the ATM would not let us get larger sums out) we headed to the Gandhi memorial. Gandhi’s memorial is basically a huge park with his and a few other of his family members graves/memorials scattered throughout. Next it was on to Humayun's tomb which was amazing, again absolutely beautiful architecture - these tombs are where many Mughal kings are buried. Once we met back with our driver he suggested some lunch and drove us to a flash restaurant where we had a bite to eat (probably most flash place we will eat at this trip) and still ended up being reasonably cheap (about $30 for both of us) right next to the restaurant was a park called Lodi Garden, huge park with lots of people having picnics. Back to our driver who then drove us past the Indian parliament house (which is really big) and past India Gate. On our way back to the hotel Sud dropped us off at Shri Lakshmi Narain Temple, we couldn’t actually go into the temple its-self but we walked around the temple's gardens where there were big preparations going on for an (we think) Indian wedding, the red carpet was already rolled out and guests were waiting around in some very flash traditional clothing. We headed back to the hotel from here and had some dinner. Heading off to bed as we have a 6 hour drive tomorrow to Mandawa.
